Arbetsuppgifter

All typ av klinisk forskning omges av ett omfattande regelverk som ska garantera god kvalitet, tillförlitliga data och inte minst studiedeltagarnas säkerhet och integritet. Dina arbetsuppgifter är varierande men kommer främst bestå av projektledning av forskningsstudier som drivs av Regionens forskare samt att arbeta som objektproduktspecialist i regionens elektroniska stödsystem för insamling av forskningsdata vid kliniska studier. Kvalifikationer

The School of Medical Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in vaccine development for a fixed-term appointment.

Background
Global epidemics of infectious diseases have often successfully been controlled and even eradicated by the development of vaccines distributed through effective vaccination programs. Microorganisms causing infectious diseases are constantly emerging and re-emerging which highlights the need to develop new and improved vaccines.

Developvaccines@oru is a research platform that focuses on development of effective vaccines that can be delivered to mucosal surfaces. In this project, you will have a special focus on the molecular biology and immunology of Tick-borne encephalitis virus and related flaviviruses. Duties and responsibilities
The appointment as a postdoctoral researcher is intended to enable persons who have recently been awarded their doctoral degree, to consolidate and develop primarily their research skills. The applicant will be involved in evaluation of the vaccine candidates in vitro and in vivo (in cell- and animal models) and has a role in analyzing antibodies and inflammatory markers, using conventional techniques such as Western blotting, MesoScale, ELISpot and ELISA. The applicant will have a special focus on molecular cloning, viral reverse genetics, cell cultivation, propagation of infectious viruses in oru BSL-2 laboratory and purification of proteins, viruses and virus like particles. The applicant will also be involved in designing protocols for vaccination, neutralization assays and challenge of developed vaccines in animal models.  The project will be conducted in close collaboration with the other researchers and industrial partners within the project.

Qualifications
Those qualified for appointment as a postdoctoral researcher are applicants who have been awarded a doctoral degree in a subject matter relevant for the position (e.g. Biomedicine, Immunology, Molecular Cell Biology, Vaccinology, Virology or Molecular Virology) or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree. The degree is to have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Preferably, you have experience with vaccine development and have skills using cellular and animal models and immunological techniques e.g. Western blotting, ELISpot, MesoScale and ELISA. Research experience in cultivating of infectious viruses, molecular virology including reverse genetics, confocal laser scanner microscopy, is of special interest. Previous research activities within mucosal immunology and evaluation of vaccine candidates and markers are a merit. Since the project will be conducted in close collaborations with industrial partners and other researchers, a cooperative mindset is of great importance. The applicant should also be highly organized, be able to meet deadlines, have a clear sense of responsibility, and be goal oriented. The applicant shall also be fluent in oral and written English.

Medicine, biomedicine and psychology research generate many large datasets with need for integrated analysis, including genetic, sequencing, molecular, clinical, lifestyle and registry data, with mechanistic, diagnostic and prognostic objectives as well as dedicated towards precision medicine and prevention. At Örebro University, several strong research environments in biomedicine and psychology (CVRC, NGBI, CHAMP) generate such data with accelerating pace, regarding both amount of data and their complexity. Their modelling and analysis, “making sense out of data”, is currently a very active research field. Within the national initiative Clinical Genomics (https://www.scilifelab.se/units/clinical-genomics-orebro/) we also aim at accelerating application and translation of genomics research for the clinical routine.

The candidate will build and investigate statistical as well as mathematical/mechanistic models of biomedical/molecular processes on various scales, with machine learning methodology, based on dynamical data and connected to large-scale clinical data, molecular data, questionnaire data, and national registry data on chronic pain both from clinical collaboration partners in Örebro, and multimodal pain services in Sweden.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you would join multiple truly transdisciplinary projects, together with  business partners from the Life Science sector, together with a multidisciplinary team of biomedical researchers, statisticians, bioinformaticians, psychologists and medical doctors. You would be responsible for developing, implementing and investigating results from statistical bioinformatics models based on experimental data available within the various collaborating research environments relevant for a variety of mechanisms in inflammation research as well as factors associated with a variety of pain phenotypes. We are looking for a researcher in Systems Medicine for a fixed-term position at the School of Medical Sciences.

In an ongoing project funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR dia. No. 2018-02629), “Blood-based metabolomics to predict severity and patient outcomes in traumatic brain injury (meTBI)”, large-scale metabolomics study has been performed in collaboration with European CENTER-TBI consortium. These data are currently being analyzed, and first publications have already been prepared and several more are being planned. The key focus of the project is to identify metabolic signatures of traumatic brain signature, and relate them to clinical phenotypes and outcomes as well as other relevant medical data including neuroimaging.

We are looking for a researcher in systems medicine for a permanent position at the School of Medical Sciences.

Subject area
The primary research area is systems medicine, with emphasis on identification and validation of disease biomarkers of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) based on metabolomics and other relevant genetic and clinical data. Research will also involve setting up in vitro models (hepatocyte cell lines, liver and possibly other organoids) for functional validation. The position will also support other projects and collaborations in the Systems medicine team, by contributing to mining of multi-modal data and analyses of biological networks in health and disease. 

Background
The researcher will contribute to IMI project LITMUS - Liver Investigation: Testing Marker Utility in Steatohepatitis, as well as to other related projects, where molecular diagnostic tools are being developed to diagnose and monitor NAFLD.

The research focus is on applications of multivariate and network/pathway modelling approaches to identify the key pathways and markers associated with progression of NAFLD – based on multiomics data including metabolomics (plasma and human liver biopsies), RNAseq (liver biopsies) and metagenomics (gut microbiota) from multiple human cohort studies. The aim is also to translate the research findings into the diagnostic application, and to functionally characterize the underlying pathways using model systems. The researcher will also be involved in planning of in vitro functional validation studies at Örebro University and contribute to analysis and interpretation of metabolomics and other ‘omics’ and clinical data in Systems Medicine team at Örebro University.

Duties and responsibilities
A researcher shall spend their working hours mainly on research. The appointment may also include teaching, when there is a need within the organisation, to facilitate the researcher to acquire qualifications for a teaching appointment at the University. The share of teaching may not exceed a 20 per cent of a full-time post.

Qualifications
Those qualified for the appointment as a researcher are applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree.

Assessment criteria
Documented knowledge and experience in biochemistry, biostatistics and statistical learning, involving analysis of biological high-throughput data, as well as experience in cell and molecular biology (in vitro models of disease) is a requirement. We are looking for a researcher in Mathematical/Computational Systems Biology for a permanent full-time position at the School of Medical Sciences at Örebro University.

Background
This position is a unique opportunity to become a central collaborator in the establishment of the large and well-funded project X-HiDE (www.oru.se/X-HiDE); aiming at using a systems biology approach to investigate inflammatory mechanisms. We are looking for a researcher (junior or senior), who wants to establish a long-term research platform at Örebro University.

X-HiDE will build and investigate mathematical mechanistic models of inflammatory processes on various scales, based on dynamical data produced from in vitro models and connected to large-scale clinical OMICs data. The focus is on mathematical ODE-based multi-level modeling, with systematic testing of subsystem mechanisms, and assembly of these into larger models to represent overall systems views. Models will then be investigated regarding their role in inflammation seen in common diseases, and towards translating these findings for clinical application, hybrid modeling approaches will be followed.

X-HiDE is hosted by the Inflammatory Response and Infection Susceptibility Center (iRiSC) at Örebro University (www.oru.se/iRiSC), which, together with the Functional Bioinformatics group, will be the main affiliation for the position. X-HiDE is transdisciplinary and includes also academic partners located at Linköping University, Sweden, and at Rostock University, Germany but also major industrial partners, e.g. AstraZeneca in Gothenburg and Wolfram MathCore in Linköping. As part of the project, the position offers the possibility and is encouraged to spend shorter or longer times at these sites.

Duties and responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities involve research, teaching, and collaboration.  We expect the researcher to develop his/her autonomy as a scientist and to acquire further qualifications in terms of both research and teaching skills. The position shall also contribute to the University’s development, and as such be responsible of coordinating the establishment of Systems biology at Örebro University. The University has a strong profile in artificial intelligence (AI) and is looking for further opportunities to expand its multi-disciplinary research, and thus an important part of the position is to collaborate and find links to the AI research at Örebro University. The successful candidate is therefore expected to act as a bridge between the AI research environment and systems biology at X-HIDE, and to find new projects and opportunities between the two environments. The main work of the position involves coordinating the collaboration between X-HiDE’s partners – academic and industrial. Also, one important task is to take initiative for further national and international collaborations and funding.

The applicant will also be involved in the development and investigation of dynamical mathematical models based on experimental data available within X-HiDE; data relevant for a variety of mechanisms at different scales of inflammation. The applicant will engage in in-depth discussions for hypothesis development, model specification and adaptation, as well as generation of model predictions in close collaboration with experimentally working biomedical researchers and clinicians.

The researcher will further develop courses and teach on masters and PhD level.

We are looking for a researcher in biomedicine for a fixed-term position (1 year) at the School of Medicine.

Background
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death world-wide, accounting for approximately one third of all deaths globally. Atherosclerosis is the underlying process for most CVDs and is characterized by accumulation of cholesterol and activated immune cells in the arterial wall. The clinical presentations of atherosclerosis are diverse and comprise myocardial infarction, stroke, peripheral arterial disease etc.  Vascular inflammation is a crucial component in the development of CVD and is currently evaluated as therapeutic target for cardiovascular disease.

This position is part of the Cardiovascular Research Center, (CVRC), a strong research environment focusing on cardiovascular diseases, such as arrhythmias, myocardial infarction and heart failure.  The main aims of the research environment are to significantly strengthen the cardiovascular research through genuine translational research and collaboration between basic and clinical scientists at Örebro University and Örebro University Hospital, and to create unique multidisciplinary projects in the field of cardiovascular research.

Duties and responsibilities
In the current position the researcher will study cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying development of cardiovascular disease, with a special focus on inflammatory mediators. The researcher is expected to work independently, to take responsibility of the execution, organization, and development of the research project, to generate and document experimental results, and to report project progresses to the team leader regularly. The researcher should be experienced in scientific communication and are expected to supervise junior members of the group.

Qualifications

Assessment criteria
The candidate should have a PhD in relevant area and a strong background in cardiovascular research.  The candidate should have extensive experience in cell culture experiments and excellent skills in various cellular and molecular biology techniques. Vi söker en forskare i biomedicin men inriktningen bioinformatik, mikrobiell genomik och proteomik för tidsbegränsad anställning vid Institutionen för Medicinska vetenskaper

Bakgrund
Bakteriociner är antimikrobiella peptider som har flera fördelar jämfört med konventionell antibiotika. Med stöd från Stiftelsen för Strategisk Forskning (SSF) satsar Örebro universitet tillsammans med Linköpings universitet och Luleå tekniska universitet samt näringslivet i ett projekt (HEALiX) där cellulosamaterial, bakteriociner och sensorer kombineras i syfte att utveckla en ny generation av avancerade multifunktionella sårförbandsmaterial för att motverka och behandla kroniska svårläkta sår. Forskningen och utvecklingen av antimikrobiella peptider sker huvudsakligen vid Örebro universitet med en grupp bestående av två seniora forskare och tre doktorander. Kompetens saknas idag i inom området bioinformatik och datasimuleringar avseende strukturell och funktionell dynamik, inkluderande proteogenomik, för att i detalj klargöra hur och genom vilka mekanismer specifika antibakteriella peptider interagerar med bakterier och infekterade humana celler.

Arbetsuppgifter
Arbetsuppgifterna som forskare i projektet innefattar att med hjälp av proteogenomik och bioinformatik identifiera nya peptidsekvenser med optimal antibakteriell effekt och minimal cytotoxisk verkan, samt förmåga att binda till cellulosamaterial, och klargöra detaljer kring hur och genom vilka mekanismer peptiderna avdödar olika patogena bakterier och motverkar infektion av humana celler.

Behörighet
Behörig att anställas som forskare är den som avlagt doktorsexamen eller har avlagt utländsk examen som bedöms motsvara doktorsexamen. Tidigare innehavande av postdoktortjänst inom för tjänsten relevant område under minst två år är meriterande.

Bedömningsgrunder
Som allmän bedömningsgrund gäller att den sökande kan uppvisa sådana personliga egenskaper som krävs för att fullgöra de aktuella arbetsuppgifterna kunna samarbeta och bidra till utveckling av verksamheten.

Anställningen kräver mycket god vana i metoder och tekniker för både experimentella studier och datasimuleringar avseende molekylärbiologiska och mikrobiologiska processer i olika infektionsmodeller. Kompetens inom bioinformatik, mikrobiell genomik och proteomik är en förutsättning och erfarenhet av forskning kring antimikrobiella substansers verkningsmekanismer är meriterande.

Du som söker ska ha förmåga att arbeta självständigt och eftersom du kommer att ingå i en forskargrupp med doktorander och andra forskare är samarbetsförmåga och erfarenhet att lära och handleda doktorander viktig del i tjänsten.
